Lifesaving First Aid resources in Urdu

St John Ambulance, together with the NHS and the British Islamic Medical Association, have created a series of First Aid resources in Urdu to help communities respond in an emergency.

The resources include a thought-provoking short film and informative guides to raise awareness of the risk of cardiac arrest in the South Asian community, how to perform CPR, and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to help someone's chances of survival.

Due to higher levels of deprivation and health and lifestyle factors, some people from South Asian backgrounds (Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi) may be at an increased risk of developing heart and circulatory disease; a key contributor to cardiac arrest.

Translating with Communities aims to build confidence in communities, so they feel able to act in an emergency by giving CPR or using an AED promptly. It’s hoped the newly created resources can help increase cardiac arrest survival rates in South Asian, Urdu speaking communities.
